The Pyrénées , geological history and discovery trails
Marble Sarrancolin (Ilhet and Beyrède quarries) is the result of a traditional process in the Pyrénées. Limestone ( Cretaceous here and specifically Cenomanian ) were adjusted vertically by the Tertiary tectonics. Was followed by a period of fracturing, brecciation, karstification and filling the fractures and conduits, during the Tertiary ( Paleogene and Neogene ) in continental environment , the Pyrénées are now emerged . It is the iron from the Permo -Triassic neighbour with sodium, assuring the filling, marble confer its globally recognized beauty (variety Opéra Fantastico in particular).
